Big Trip Day 18 (Te Anau to Queenstown)

We ate breakfast, packed, and were out the door around 10:45.  We continued on the Southern Scenic Route up to Queenstown.  We had packed lunch which we ate along the way beside another beautiful clear water lake (Lake Wakatipu) and the Historic Steam Rail depot in Kingston.  We passed through Devil's Staircase (winding roads) and drove around Queenstown itself.  We would have liked to have time to do the unique Shotover Jet, but McKenna was probably too little anyways.  We caught a 5:30 flight to Auckland with a stop over in Christchurch, landing at 8:15.  We spent the night at the IBIS Budget Auckland (catching a bus for about NZ $30) at NZ $145 for two rooms.
