Langkawi--Day 1

This is the view outside of our hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the first night.  It was located in the Pavilion area.  It is looking into the suburbs, south:

We got up the next morning, had breakfast, and headed up to the ferry point for Langkawi, which is an island.  The roads were great.  All of the tolls up the eight hour drive (start to finish, not including any stops) only totaled about US$40.  There were some great views getting to see the whole western side of the country:

At the Kuala Kedah ferry terminal.  We parked the car in their parking lot.  (Probably don't recommend parking elsewhere.)  The ride itself costs about RM$240 for 3 adults and 3 kids, round-trip.  Eight days and seven nights of the car in the lot could have cost us about US$10 per day...  The ferry ride was 1-1/2-ish hours to Langkawi. 

*Note: we also booked a 3-day (72-hour) 8-passenger car here with one of the "travel companies."  We did this for a few of the places we wanted to see all over the island in several places that would be difficult or pricey to use a taxi for.  We ended up paying half of their "special price" because we'd done our research homework ahead of time.  Probably paid about US$100 for all three days and they dropped it off at our hotel.

First meal in Langkawi, at The Cactus.  Sarah had Cashew Chicken.  We ended up eating here a lot.  It's one of those "unpublished" great spots.
