This was Raj, our driver. He was wonderful to get to know:
This is Praveen Beesa, owner of Melissa Travels. It was fantastic to get to know him and meet his family:
This is the classified section of the local newspaper. There are want ads for brides and grooms. India still uses a arranged marriage system, though brides- and grooms-to-be are getting a lot more say during the selection process than in the past:This is the Courtyard Marriott in Gurgoan. It was (without traffic) a 15 minute ride south of the airport. There is a Marriott being built just across from the Delhi Airport that looks like it is going to be huge. We used our hotel points for two nights here:
This area is growing, it is a new "business/conference area" of Delhi. Out our hotel window:
On Tuesday morning, June 4, we took one last photo and headed home. This is the McDonald's menu at the airport. There were no meat choices and everything was spicy!
We made it in the door to our house at about 6:00 p.m. The inevitable sickness that you will pick up in India began about this time, too. Sarah's stomach and intestine's gave her great problems for about 36 hours (and did not feel fully normal for 2 weeks). Jeremy had flu-like symptoms and missed work for a couple days. He slept the whole entire time. Possible diagnosis for him: mild case of dengue (which there is no treatment or preventative for).
Not to end on a negative note, of a truly wonderful experience, I love this quote written in 1883 by Max Mueller:
If I were to look over the whole world to find out the country most richly endowed with all the wealth, power, and beauty that nature can bestow--in some parts a very paradise on earth--I should point to India.
