Kuala Lumpur--Day 3

January 12.  We awoke again in our hotel with the ten-story mall and, of course, had to have Krispy Kreme donuts again.  I think Jeremy must have been loading the car or something because we took some pictures of the decorations in preparation for the Chinese New Year, which was still a month away.

Then, we headed off for the Batu Caves.  Batu Caves is a limestone hill which has a series of caves and cave temples.  It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill.  The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India.  The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old.  Wooden steps to the Temple Cave were built in 1920 and were replaced by 272 concrete steps.

The Lord Murugan statue is 140 feet high and was unveiled in 2006.  It is the largest one of him in the world.  He is a popular Hindu deity.

We saw many monkeys, drank lots of water, and each climbed every step:

The top of the steps leads into the Temple Cave (as opposed to the Bat Cave, etc.).  Inside we saw the magnificent stone, met some more monkeys, and some roosters:

We headed back down and guess what we saw some more of:

We grabbed a light snack--fresh roti and fresh coconut:

End of the tour.  End of the vacation.  Busy.  Needing to return to church, work and school!
