Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences here are done just a little different.  For one, they are held in the fall and near the beginning of spring.  For another, the student comes to the conference with the parents.  And last, outside of Kindergarten, it is also a "goals" conference, not just a progress one.

Madison is progressing along nicely for her needs.  She receives small group help in Reading-Language Arts and has improved three grade letters in the reading charts that they use...which is a big deal in the later grades that she is in.  She also receives small group help in math.  They spend a good amount of time on individual ipads which can track their progress.  Their answers and the time it took to arrive at the answer (right or wrong) are all recording.  She is improving in both areas.  I found this picture hanging on the hall wall outside of her classroom.  The theme was "I can make a difference."  Love the quote.

Parker has a phenomenal teacher.  He has grown greatly in every area.  He is reading at a high-average level and not only is writing well phonetically, is able to read it back later...which is not always easy to do.  His class has been working very hard on math and math facts lately.  Our school is changing over to a new mathmatics system also being started in the U.S.  There has been a team from the U.S. that has come over a few times to teach the system to our teachers here.  They have really taken note of Parker and his advancement, quickness and comprehension during their visits that they have been marking his understanding and further personal application by video-taping him.  I stepped into his Chinese class to see how he was progressing there as well.  I recorded a story that he made with this video:
