Dragon Kiln

There is one Dragon Kiln still in Singapore (at the Jungle Pottery--turn by turn directions at the end).  They "fire it up" once to twice a year.  I took Jeremy out the other Friday night to witness.  Surprisingly, there were not a ton of people around, but those who worked there were diligently helping those who had signed up (hour by hour) to keep the wood going into the fire and at a constant temperature...and were then unable to answer many questions I had.  It's always amazing to view a piece of history.  I hear that packing it is quite a feat.  Here are some of my pictures:

 

 

 

We tried coconut gelato and Mango sorbet on coconut husks inside a shelled out coconut with toppings (I chose jelly and forgo-ed the corn and red beans!):

Step by step instructions (because the GPS doesn't quite get you all the way): 
1.  Start on the PIE.  You will exit at Jalan Bahar.  If going in the direction from Woodlands to the dragon kiln, you will turn right.
2.  Turn left on Nanyang Avenue
3.  Left on Cleantech View (which has a stop light)
4.  Left left on Cleantech Loop (which has a stop light)
5.  Right on Cleantech Loop (almost at what appears to be the end with a metal fence)
6.  Follow the street to the circular end. 
7.  There is a little street, Lor Tawas, off of the upper left portion on the circle.  You can drive or walk down this to the entrance.

Extra info:
1.  It is a stop on the Kranji Heritage Trail--which might be interesting.
2.  There are adult and kids classes available weekly.
3.  You can go back and watch them unload everything.
