Phi Phi Island

For Spring Break this year (last week of March), we headed off to Krabi and Phi Phi Islands (in Thailand).  The wrong way to say these would be in the words of our four-year-old:  Crabby and Pee Pee Land.  Surprisingly, the pee pee part is correct...

So, we took automobile taxi's from our house to the airport (25 minutes, a plane from Singapore to Krabi (1 hour 45 minutes), a van-type taxi from the airport to the ferry terminal (30 minutes), a ferry from the Krabi to Phi Phi (1 hour 30 minutes) and a water taxi/long tail boat from the Phi Phi ferry terminal to our hotel on the other side of the island (about 15 minutes).  While so many people like to go to Phuket, especially rent a Marriott villa there, we opted for more of a laid-back island feel with clearer waters.  The flight to Phuket is the same distance, as Phuket and Krabi sit across the water from each other.  Phi Phi Island sits between them in the middle of the Andaman Sea.

There are three flights that go to Krabi each day, one each by a different carrier.  We ended up on Air Asia.  Our flights, completely done, were about $150-175 usd each, round-trip. Jeremy booked the van taxi (as a regular car would be too small) by finding a random company online who also bought the ferry tickets for us ahead of time.  We think that the van was 400 baht.  At the ferry terminal, we also paid cash for the return ferry tickets, needed for a few days later.  Hotels will come and pick up for the long-tail, however, they are generally 5-10 times more.  Our hotel had told us to expect to pay 1000 baht for the long tail. At the dock, upon arrival, we were offered 1500 and Jeremy countered at 1200.
