January 2014

We started off the new year at Sentosa enjoying the beach and good friends:

We connected with a new friend.  Anisah is from Indonesia, studying school in Singapore.  She did a year "abroad" in the United States.  She stayed with three families in Michigan.  One of the families she stayed with is a good friend of my cousin Carrie.  This family lived nearby the new University of Michigan Children's Hospital that Carrie's youngest daughter, Avery was being taken care at for many, many months.  Carrie would frequently drive the two hours from their house to the hospital and stay the night at this friend's house...while Anisah was living there.  Such a small world:

Allison, Madison, and Parker participated in "Red Riding Hood" through Missoula Children's Theater who were brought in for a week by Sarah's work:

And, when school went back into session, Parker completed a project by creating a Singapore Hawker Center (local food stall):
At the end of January, we began Chinese New Year celebrations with a trip to Chinatown:

We also snapped a picture of one of Sarah's favorite local buildings:
Unfortunately, we also experienced a broken bone (Allison's left wrist) which "snapped" just below the growth plate one evening.  Jeremy was out of town and Sarah was just about done with work.  We decided to go to the Accident and Emergency Center (ER) to check it out and ended up with surgery to place two pins about two hours later.  It was not all smiles even given the pictures.  I found the posted fees slightly amusing and refreshing.  Not so much the final bill.  We must give credit and thanks to Jeremy in Brunei talking via Skype to our insurance via the overseas claims office who got the $15,000 bill pre-authorized (taken care of) before our discharge later the next day:
